Nine Iowa Registered Agent Services, Sorted by Annual Price
Iowa registered agent service at a flat $99 per year. Physical address, scanned legal mail, compliance alerts. Renewals stay the same price.
Disclosure before data. Iowa Registered Agent.co publishes this ranking, occupies its first row, and collects $99 a year whenever a reader follows the recommendation. Weigh our judgments with that in mind. The prices need no such handicap: every number below is what that company advertised when we verified it in July 2026, including the one that undercuts us.

Why Row One Belongs to Iowa Registered Agent.co
Five mechanics, all verifiable. One: service of process delivered to our Iowa address gets scanned and emailed the same business day it arrives. Two: the price is $99 at signup and $99 at every renewal after; nothing in our billing is built to escalate. Three: checkout offers one service and zero add-ons; there is no premium tier to sidestep. Four: our street address goes on your public filings so your home address does not. Five: the only charge past the annual fee is stated up front, $15 per item to scan business mail that is not legal process.
On the cheapest question, exact words matter. The cheapest registered agent service in Iowa, by advertised sticker, is BetterLegal at $90. We do not claim that title. We claim one of the lowest flat renewal prices in the field, with same-day scanning included and an invoice that reads the same every single year.
Rows Two Through Nine
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.
Order HereRank 2: Northwest Registered Agent
The best alternative to hiring us. Northwest publishes everything: first year free when bundled with a formation order, $125 a year at renewal for one to four states, $100 per state once you register five or more. Phone support is handled by staff, not scripts, and the company's privacy record is clean. It holds rank two for arithmetic alone. The service matches ours in function and costs $26 more.
Rank 3: BetterLegal
$90 a year, the lowest published rate in the comparison, confirmed in our July 2026 check. Why rank three? First-year billing terms could not be verified, and this list places fully confirmed pricing above partially confirmed pricing. Choosing BetterLegal on price is defensible. Study the checkout screen before you do it.
Rank 4: Rocket Lawyer
$125 a year, identical at every membership level, no first-year discount found. Stable, plainly stated pricing, which counts for something in this category. The catch is the packaging: the agent appointment arrives inside a wider legal subscription with document templates and attorney consultations attached. Useful if you use it. Dead weight if you only need the appointment.
Rank 5: ZenBusiness
Purchased standalone, agent service costs $99 plus state fees the first year, then $199 a year at renewal. The platform is genuinely good, the best interface of the nine. Judge it at $199 anyway, because renewal is the price of every year you actually keep it, and $199 asks a lot of a dashboard.
Rank 6: Bizee (formerly Incfile)
Formation packages bundle the agent role at no charge for three to twelve months, depending on package. After that, standalone service is $149 a year, billed from the day the free window closes. The free months are real value. The risk is forgetting when they end. Bizee will not chase you with a warning; put the date in your own calendar.
Rank 7: LegalZoom
$249 a year, renewed automatically, with no first-year markdown that we could locate. No flat rate in the table costs more, and none carries a better-known name. Recognition is the entire premium. Underneath the logo, the appointment functions exactly like the eight cheaper ones listed here, at $150 more per year than ours.
Rank 8: Swyft Filings
$149 billed quarterly, which annualizes to roughly $596, the highest twelve-month total in the table, with no distinct first-year discount found. Nothing is broken about the service itself. The billing structure is the objection: it presents a very large annual cost as four unremarkable charges. Multiply by four before you sign anything.
Rank 9: Inc Authority
First year free. Renewal: not published. Our July 2026 review of Inc Authority's homepage, FAQ, and premium package pages turned up no renewal number at all; the real figure appears only at checkout or on a sales call. That is teaser pricing in its purest form, and a comparison built on published prices has one option for it. Last place. A vendor confident in its renewal rate prints it.
Form 635_0119: Iowa's $0 Exit
Iowa lets an LLC replace its registered agent for free. The filing is Form 635_0119, the state's combined change form covering the registered office, the registered agent, or both. It goes to the Business Services Division of the Iowa Secretary of State. Iowa Code § 489.122(1)(g) sets the LLC fee at zero, and the form's own instructions confirm it. Partnerships pay $5 on the same document; LLCs pay nothing.
A free exit changes the economics of this entire page. Renewal jumps depend on switching friction, and Iowa removed the friction. If any provider in the table, ours included, raises its rate or slips on delivery, replacing it costs one form and zero dollars. No agent can lock you in here. Pick on merit, because the state made leaving free.
April 1 of Odd Years: The Iowa Report Schedule
Iowa LLCs do not file an annual report. They file every other year. The biennial report comes due April 1 in odd-numbered years, inside a window that opens January 1. The fee is $30 filed online through the Fast Track Filing portal or $45 on paper; the Secretary of State's help page walks through the process. Iowa imposes no late fee for missing April 1. It imposes something heavier: an LLC still unfiled by the following August is administratively dissolved (Iowa Code § 489.209 and § 489.212). The first report lands in the first odd-numbered year after formation. The next window statewide is January 1 to April 1, 2027.
The two-year gap is the trap. Between windows the state sends you almost nothing, so no yearly rhythm develops to keep the date alive. Iowa companies rarely dissolve because $30 was hard to pay. They dissolve because an odd-year deadline arrived and nobody was watching for it. Reminders are the core of what an Iowa registered agent is for. Ours go out before every window opens.
What Iowa Requires of the Agent Itself
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.
Order HereThe controlling sections are Iowa Code § 489.115 for the appointment and § 489.116 for changes. Check the numbering on anything else you read: chapter 489 was renumbered effective January 1, 2024, and material citing § 489.113 or § 489.114 for agent questions predates the change. The rule itself is brief. Every LLC has to appoint a registered agent and keep one at all times. Individual or entity, the agent needs a place of business inside Iowa, and the designation affirms consent to serve. Each of the nine services above satisfies those conditions.
One related fact for anyone forming from scratch: Iowa publishes no fill-in Certificate of Organization form. You either draft your own document under Iowa Code § 489.201 or file through the Fast Track portal, and the state fee is $50. That drafting gap explains why so many Iowa founders end up inside a formation bundle from one of the vendors above. Buy the bundle if it helps. Check what the agent line renews at before you do.
The Decision
Nine services, one legal function. Pay $249 for the name, take the $90 sticker with its unverified first-year terms, or pay $99 flat for same-day scanning, an Iowa street address on the record, and a reminder ahead of every odd-year window. The state made switching free, so no choice on this page is permanent. We think the third option holds up best, and we priced it to keep holding up at renewal.
